On Monday, we as a country honor every American Soldier, Airman, Sailor, and Marine who has paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation. We commemorate men and women who share an unbreakable bond with centuries of Americans before them—men and women to whom we owe our very way of life.

As we end this holiday weekend—and families and friends have gathered for barbeques and children have run to pools—I join with all Texans in saluting those who have died, those who still serve, and those families across the country who bear the burden of distance or loss.

It is in their honor—and for me and my family, in honor of my dad who served in World War II—that we must continue to fight on behalf of our servicemen and women, our wounded warriors, and our veterans.
