Although, pregnancy is one of life’s most rewarding and beautiful experiences, many women experience devastating side effects from childbirth. Stretching and tearing of the vagina and its muscles during childbirth can lead to vaginal relaxation and change in sexual function and sensation.
SEX IS JUST NOT THE SAME
Many women are concerned that they no longer experience the same pleasure they once did with intercourse. Consistently these women all say the same thing, “sex is just not the same”, “My vagina is too loose“, or “I just don’t feel anything during sex”. Sexual gratification for the female according to Masters and Johnson is directly related to the amount of frictional forces generated within the vagina and clitoral stimulation. If the vagina is stretched and widened, there is less frictional force produced with sex.
Most of the women who have these problems attribute vaginal looseness to the stretching or tearing of the vagina that occurs during childbirth. They recall what sex “used to be like” before having children. How many times have I heard this: “sex is just not the same after having the kids”, or “I just don’t feel much anymore”. Women who realize they have these problems can remember how sex used to be like and how it is different now. Many of these women note that it often takes longer to have orgasms due to the decrease in friction with subsequent decrease in sexual satisfaction. Some can’t have orgasms at all.
The way a woman feels about herself also is a factor regarding her sexual excitement. Women who have very good self esteem tend to feel better about sex and her sexual experiences. How a woman feels about herself is a major contributor to good sex. If she feels that she looks great, she tends to feel sexier. This includes the genital area too. Many women suffer from poor self esteem because they have excessive lips on her genital areas. They feel ugly down there and embarrassed, and this can alsoo affect her sexual activities.
After discussing these problems with their personal physicians, including Ob/Gyn, primary care physicians, and health care providers, most physicians will simply recommend Kegel exercises. Unfortunately, Kegel exercises, otherwise called pelvic floor exercises, just do NOT work well for most people! Many patients comment that their doctor told them these changes are normal and part of aging. They insinuate that there is nothing wrong, but these statements are far from the truth. Most are not even concerned about the appearance of the woman’s labia and vulva, even though it is a concern for her and her self esteem.

Today, a small group of surgeons through out the world do understand there is a problem. THE PROCEDURES WE OFFER
There are two categories of procedures offered by Dr. True. These are called Cosmetic Gynecologic Surgeries and are comprised of the following types of procedures:
1) Cosmetic Vaginal Surgery addresses the external appearance of the vaginal area. The most common procedure is called Labiaplasty or Labia Reduction Surgery. Other procedures may be Hoodectomy, Prebuce Reduction, and Perineoplasty.
2) Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery is a vaginal tightening procedure performed on the inside of the vagina. This procedure is for patients who complain of a loose vagina and is performed to enhance friction and sensation during intercourse.
Both Cosmetic Vaginal surgeries and Vaginal Rejuvenation surgeries are considered elective procedures. They are performed in our office using mild sedation and local anesthesia. Patients get the results for improved vaginal and labial anatomy during essentially an office based procedure. These procedures are not considered surgeries of medical necessity and are performed only because of the request of the patient. Since these surgeries are not medically necessary or performed for life threatening conditions, they are considered to be plastic or cosmetic surgical processes. These types of surgeries are not covered by insurance. Learn more about these procedures that can help enhance your life in this website.
IMPROVE YOUR SEXUAL EXPERIENCE
VAGINAL REJUVENATION: VAGINAL TIGHTENING PROCEDURE
Most patients who complain of diminished sensation or friction during intercourse have relaxed and stretched vaginal and pelvic structures. However, diminished sexual desire can also be from a multitude of other problems. Only through a physical exam and appropriate evaluation can the cause be ascertained and treatment assigned. If the cause is secondary to anatomic problems, then the vaginal rejuvenation procedure may be indicated.
If a candidate, they can have a one hour surgical procedure designed to enhance the tightness of the vagina and strengthen the pelvic structures, resulting in an increase in the friction during intercourse. Vaginal rejuvenation will effectively enhance the tautness and tightness of the vaginal walls by correcting the causes of the loose vaginal structures. These include stretching, tears, and abnormal anatomy that have caused the vaginal looseness. There are several surgical techniques that can help these problems. Each individual patient must be evaluated for the treatment varies depending upon the amount and type of vaginal relaxation found.
Most patients who are candidates may achieve their desired results through a Vaginal Rejuvenation procedure. Using the laser, this is called Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, or LVR. The procedure brings the muscles and tissues back together to about where they were before pregnancy. It thus tightens the vagina to increase the frictional forces during sex, designed to enhance sexual gratification. However, it is not a solution for sexual dysfunction, lack of interest or arousal, or orgasmic inadequacy.
Vaginal rejuvenation is NOT considered a medical necessity and therefore insurance companies will not pay for sexual enhancement surgery alone. Cosmetic vaginal restoration surgeries are considered elective and not medically indicated; they are cosmetic or aesthetic surgeries. Therefore they are not surgeries that will be reimbursed by the insurance companies.
There are pelvic prolapse and relaxation problems that are covered by many insurance plans. This indication is known as vaginal prolapse or pelvic relaxation. Symptomatic prolapse comes in many forms including: vaginal vault prolapse, cystocele, rectocele, enterocele and urethroceles. Patients with symptomatic prolapse may also have diminished sensation with intercourse. Fixing the prolapse, or pelvic relaxation, may also enhance the friction at the time of intercourse.
VAGINAL COSMETIC SURGERIES
We offer a variety of vaginal cosmetic surgeries for those women who desire a reshaping of their labia and vulva. Also called Labiaplasty or Designer Laser Vaginoplasty (DLV) when using the laser, these are surgical procedures that improve the appearance of the genital area. This aesthetically modifies the labia so the inner lips don’t protrude from the outer lips.
The labiaplasty is the most commonly performed procedure to the reducte the size and contour of the labia. Here, the smaller inner lips (labia minora) are trimmed to fit more aesthetically within the larger lips (labia majora). The goal is to prevent the inner lips from protruding past the larger labia when standing. This is an appearance that is beautiful aesthetically and gives a woman improved self esteem just knowing that she looks beautiful down in her genital area.
Some women have an excessive amount of fat in the labia majora and the mons, which is the area just above the vulva on the pubic bone. They may desire this excess fat to be reduced. Liposuction and sculpturing the mons pubis and labia majora to remove unwanted excess fat from these areas can be performed with excellent results.
Alternatively, some women want their labia majora bulked up and more plump. In these cases, fat can be harvested from other areas of her body and then transplanted into the labia majora to provide an aesthetically enhanced and more youthful look.
Dr. Robert True has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of these conditions. He has been trained by Dr. David Matlock who has been featured on the TV series Doctor 90210. Dr. Matlock has been considered a prominent expert for Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation and other procedures that enhance sexual gratification. Dr. True grasped his techniques and improved on them. He has further refined Dr. Matlock’s techniques for an even better and more aesthetically pleasing result. Not only is the vaginal rejuvenation procedure better, but the labiaplasty is improved from older techniques.
